Introduced in 1999, the Alcon ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Excimer Laser has become known around the world. Professor Theo Seiler and his team performed the first global wavefront-guided treatment on this platform. The system soon found strong acceptance specifically in central Europe, the Middle East and Asia. In 2000, the FDA clinical trials for Wavefront Optimized® LASIK were initiated with 11 clinical sites in the United States.
