Blepharoplasty corrects sagging skin and puffy bags around the eyes by removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. As we age, eyelids stretch and the structures supporting them become weak, resulting in excess fat gathering above and below the eyelids. With Blepharoplasty, results are usually significant, often not only improving appearance but also eliminating the interference drooping lids have upon the patients’ vision.
Eyelid surgery is commonly performed for cosmetic reasons to obtain a more youthful appearance. However, in some cases, the surgery may be necessary to remove overhanging skin folds to improve the function of the upper eyelid, as well as to improve vision.

Lower eyelid puffiness or “bags” is a very common cosmetic complaint. Most lower lid bags are caused by bulging of fat that normally surrounds the eyes. Typically this occurs due to weakening of the tissue associated with aging. The bulging fat is addressed by the removal or transfer of the fat. This is done by making an incision on the backside of the eyelid where it is completely hidden and therefore there is no visible scar. Often patients also have some degree of loose or excess skin. This can be addressed with CO2 Laser resurfacing, surgical removal of excess skin, or a combination of both. Recovery typically consists of no heavy, lifting, or bending for 3 days, icing for the first 1-2 days, and swelling and bruising for 1-2 weeks.
