Cataract Surgery

At Central Florida Eye Specialists, our board-certified surgeons specialize in cataract removal using advanced microsurgery techniques. Through a precise procedure, we replace the cloudy lens with an intraocular lens (IOL), restoring clarity and improving vision. With millions undergoing cataract surgery annually, our team is dedicated to ensuring a swift recovery and reducing dependence on visual aids for our patients.

Safe and Accurate

Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is one of the safest, and most commonly performed surgical procedures.  It’s also one of the most successful. In the vast majority of cases, patients do well and achieve excellent vision. Fortunately, cataracts can be quickly, safely and permanently removed with cataract surgery. However, all cataract surgery and all cataract surgeons are not the same.  At Central Florida Specialists, Drs. Barber, Truong and Moses invests in the latest cutting-edge technology.

Our surgeons spend ample time with each patient to ensure the right technology is used for the right patient. There are many options in cataract surgery and it takes time getting to know each patient’s lifestyle and goals before making these decisions. We avoid the assembly line mentality of practice, and pride ourselves in giving each patient the individual attention they need.

What is Cataract Surgery?

If you learn you have cataracts, you're not alone. They are an inevitable part of aging. Cataracts occur when the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy, impairing vision and making it harder to see clearly. You may notice glare and halos around lights or find completing activities in low light more challenging.

If you can no longer complete basic tasks or your favorite hobbies, you'll need cataract surgery. The procedure involves removing your cloudy natural lens and replacing it with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). Cataract surgery is quite common, as millions undergo it annually.

The board-certified surgeons at Central Florida Eye Specialists regularly remove cataracts using microsurgery. After removing the cataract, the new lens is placed in the eye with the same microscopic incision. Doing this helps patients recover faster and reduces their dependence on visual aids.

Take Cataract Self-Test

Yag Capsulotomy

When you have cataracts, you'll have them removed by having cataract surgery. Although it is not possible for cataracts to develop after having them removed with cataract surgery, sometimes, you can experience "cataract-like" symptoms when the posterior capsule, the thin membrane behind the lens, becomes hazy or cloudy. Often called a secondary cataract, the only way to treat this condition is with a painless procedure called a Yag capsulotomy.

During a Yag capsulotomy, your surgeon will use a laser to make an opening in the posterior capsule. This will allow light to pass through the clouded capsule and improve your vision. There's no lengthy recovery after the procedure, and most patients start noticing improvements in their vision immediately.

Leading Technology

PremiumEYES

PremiumEYES is a comprehensive set of services and procedures not covered by insurance before and during cataract surgery. These services include:

Specialized Testing with

Advanced Astigmatism Analysis

Advanced technology captures topography and corneal thickness to provide your cataract surgeon with the most accurate and detailed information about the shape of your cornea. A computer then builds a map of your cornea, which is used during cataract surgery to correct astigmatism.

Comprehensive Analysis and Surgical Plan with

Verion Image Guided System

Verion is an image-guided system that helps reduce the chances of errors occurring during cataract surgery. It does this by creating a link of data from the clinic to your cataract surgeon.

Using systems like Verion helps reduce the chance of human error, which is more likely to occur when data is hand-entered. Because of this, procedures like laser cataract surgery are significantly more accurate. Verion captures a high-definition image of your eye, which your cataract surgeon uses to create a blueprint of the best procedure for you and your eyes.

Optimizing Cataract Surgery with

The ORA System

During cataract surgery, the ORA System directs low-intensity light into the eye. The light reflects off the retina and sensors in the ORA instrument.

Using this information, your cataract surgeon can evaluate your eye during the cataract procedure, allowing them to make real-time decisions, which was never an option before ORA. Because of this, you can achieve the best possible visual outcomes.

Dropless Cataract Surgery with

Trimoxi Dropless Injections

For patients undergoing cataract surgery, it's necessary to undergo a comprehensive eye drop regimen. However, Central Florida Eye Specialists uses a dropless cataract surgery approach with Trimoxi Dropless injections for patients.

These injections combine antibiotic and steroid medications and are received during cataract surgery. Dropless cataract surgery eliminates the need for 2 of the three eye drops usually needed after the procedure, making it more convenient, easier for recovery, and more cost-effective. However, not all patients are suited for dropless cataract surgery, so your cataract surgeon will determine if you're a good candidate.

Personalized and Customized Options with IOLs

There are many IOLs available, with different options depending on your visual goals after cataract surgery. IOLs available at Central Florida Eye Specialists include:

Basic IOL

Basic IOLs have a fixed focal point, allowing you to see well at one distance. They provide clear vision at a specific distance, usually for seeing up close or at a distance. However, if you choose these IOLs, you will need to continue using visual aids because they can only correct vision at one distance. If you don't mind using reading glasses and other visual aids after cataract surgery, these IOLs can be an excellent choice.

Toric IOL

Toric IOLs are the only IOLs specifically designed to correct astigmatism. If you have astigmatism, the cornea is an irregular shape. These IOLs correct the refractive error, ensuring improved vision after cataract surgery.

Multifocal IOL

Multifocal IOLs help improve your vision up close, at a distance, and everything in between. These IOLs incorporate multiple focusing zones within a single lens. Its surface has different zones with a specific focusing power for each distance to ensure you can see clearly. Many patients with multifocal IOLs significantly reduce their dependence on visual aids like reading glasses after cataract surgery.

Multifocal Toric IOL

Toric lenses come in premium models for many IOLs, including multifocal IOLs. If you have astigmatism but want to enjoy the visual improvements of a multifocal IOL, you can enjoy significant visual advancements.
