Lesions, or growths, and skin cancers around the eye are very common, especially in sunny Florida. Diagnosis of a lesion is based on the appearance, as well as the patient history of change and growth. Treatment depends on the type of lesion and if the patient notes changes. A changing lesion is more likely to represent a skin cancer, and therefore would need to be biopsied or completely removed. Removal of skin cancers is typically done by simple excision or Mohs technique. The method of excision and reconstruction is highly variable and individualized. Dr. Scruggs will thoroughly detail the options for removal and reconstruction.
